Unity.  Recovery.  Service.

I am responsible...
When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, I want the
hand of A.A. always to be there.  And for that:  I am
responsible.

The 3 pillars of AA are Unity, Recovery and Service. Having a service position in
AA is an important part of sober life. Many sponsors require it, and it is a great way
to get to know people if you are new. Different groups have different needs, so go
to many groups until you find where you fit.

    Service Basics --

  • Go to many different AA meetings and find out which groups need help.
  • Learn about the different positions available, what is required, and if there is
a sobriety requirement. Some positions, like chairperson, require you to
have a certain amount of clean time before you can take it on. Other service
positions include secretary, treasurer, coffeemaker, room-setup, room
cleanup, greeter, and general service representative (GSR).
  • At many meetings, even if one of these service positions isn't available, they
may still need and welcome your help.
  • Once you find out what is available, volunteer yourself for the position you
think will be best for you.
  • Go to the group elections. If you are elected, start coming to the group
early. Do the job to the best of your ability.
  • Try to keep the position for at least 6 months to a year, depending on how
    the group works.

A.A. Needs You!
Our District is currently seeking volunteers to fill the following
other service positions:

"Our Twelfth Step --carrying the message-- is the basic service that the A.A.
Fellowship gives;  this is our principal aim and the main reason for our existence.
Therefore, A.A. is more than a set of principles; it is a society of alcoholics in
action.   We must carry the message, else we ourselves can wither and those who
haven't been given the truth my die.

Hence an A.A. service is anything whatever that helps us reach a fellow sufferer --
ranging all the way from the Twelfth Step itself to a ten-cent phone call and a cup
of coffee, and th A.A.'s General Service Office for national and international
action.  The sum total of all these services is our Third Legacy of Service.

Services include meeting places, hospital cooperation, and intergroup offices; they
mean pamphlets, books, and good publicity of almost every description.  They call
for committees, delegates, trustees, and conferences.  And, not to be forgotten,
they need voluntary money contributions from within the Fellowship."
